About the area
.
Stalis
is located almost in the middle of the north coast of Crete and is one of the island's major tourist resorts. It is 30 km
east of the international airport of Heraklion and spreads along a 4 km golden sandy beach.
.
The
area offers a wide range of facilities, with large five star hotels or smaller tourist establishments, numerous restaurants,
stores, cafes, bars etc. The resort areas of Hersonisos and Malia, both famous for their tourist attractions and night life,
are only 4km west and 3 km east respectively.
.
Within less
than 5 min drive there are two large water parks, the Golf court of Crete, the ancient palace of Malia, three major super
markets, two medical centres, and a variety of stores for clothing, food, technology, electricals etc. Every few hundrend
meters one can discover a new beautiful sandy beach or a rocky cave.
.
And if one is willing to drive up to 30 minutes, there is very easy access to either the capital city of Heraklion
on the west, where the biggest port and airport of Crete are, the colourful city of Agios Nikolaos and Elounda, one of Europe's
most expensive resorts on the east, or head towards the mountaneous south and discover the traditional Cretan villages of
Lasithi Plateau.
.
The first village to meet, just 9 km from Stalis or 40 km from Heraklion airport, is the colourful village
of Mochos. Around its beautiful central square, one can find many traditional tavernas and, of course, the famous church
of Virgin Mary.
